Who I am (in 10 words or less): SisterFriend, Yogi, Energy Healer, Tree-hugger, Earth-loving Spark of Divine  Light.

What I teach: I teach group and private Gentle and Intermediate Kripalu yoga for all ages and fitness levels from pregnant moms to seniors.  I offer Reiki Healing Sessions and Classes. I also lead and teach private and group Meditation. I am the lead teacher for Anahata’s Yoga Teacher Training Program (AYTT).

My current classes and workshops include: Gentle Kripalu Yoga, Gentle/Intermediate Kripalu Yoga, Hello  Yoga! Beginners Yoga Series,  Prenatal Yoga,  Chakra Workshops, and Ayurveda Workshops.  I also teach and lead Group Meditation. As a Reiki Master/Teacher I offer Healing Sessions and Reiki Classes.

Why I teach: Throughout the 20 or so years I’ve been a student of yoga, I have had the same conversation with hundreds of people. They say, “Oh, I could never practice yoga. I’m too stiff. I’m not flexible at all!” My response is always the same: “Yes, you can!! Yoga practice will help you gain flexibility in your body. ” This is the spark that drives me to teach, to share yoga that is accessible to all bodies, all ages.

My classes are: So much of popular yoga today is a very high-energy, workout-style experience. However, that’s not my style. In addition to offering yoga that builds strength and flexibility in the body, I believe I also offer students an opportunity for them to challenge themselves in a way they might not get anywhere else…I offer them the opportunity to discover how to be kind to themselves. Kripalu yoga takes them inside to the place of compassion, of self-acceptance that lives within all of us – no pushing, no striving, just kindness and compassion to ourselves, our bodies, our spirits.

What brought me to yoga: I was in my thirties, a mother of two, looking for a way to exercise my body. I tried the gym, but it felt cold and impersonal and instead of feeling empowered after my workouts, I felt inadequate. I followed my inner guidance and discovered a yoga class at a local college. “Yes!” my body said, “this feels good!” “Yes!” my spirit said, “this feels good!!” Yes, yes, yes! Yoga is for me.

Favorite pose (and why): It’s hard to choose one pose, and my favorite changes all the time. My current favorite is Mountain Pose, Tadasana. When all the layers of my body – physical, breath, mental, emotional, and spiritual – are fully in the pose, fully integrated, I feel so centered, so grounded, so balanced. It’s amazing, how amazing, standing still can feel.

Off the mat, I: My role as the steward of this lovely space we call Anahata keeps my schedule quite full. I am very passionate about the opportunity to offer Reiki energetic healing to others. For my personal growth and learning, I have completed extensive, intensive work with the body’s chakra system.  My latest explorations have led me to deepen my studies of  Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga. I love preparing and sharing local, healthy foods; hiking; camping; reading; and writing. Oh, how could I forget….grandkids are the best!!
